three squared is a quartet formed from a mutual love for freedom in music-making. a predominant feature of our writing is improvisation, a concept drawn largely from the jazz tradition but fused with countless influences from our individual musical path paths. antwon owens_PERCUSSION antwon never ceases to bring unparalleled passion and sensitivity to the rhythmic forces of a set. his compositions often use advanced scales inspired by non-western cultures, as well as explore varying levels of musical consciousness within the same work. a defining mark of antwon's style is an intimate connection to the melodic qualities of percussion, and a tendency to fearlessly change the shape of our songs by applying fresh rhythmic textures. jim disner_GUITAR jim is by far the wisest and most composed individual of the group, with the ability to guide the group out of any creative block. he applies the perfect compliment from his unbounded tonal pallette just when and where it's needed, and shapes the improvisational sections of our tunes with superbly-crafted melodies. his writing reflects an equilibrium of groove and lyricism, and he is a most difficult adversary on the badminton court. he liked his esyoovee at first, but it turns out that it’s not really that much roomier than a conventional sedan, and still gets the mileage of a small truck. matt king_SAXOPHONE always juggling a brain full of solo ideas with wine knowledge, matt is equally impressive on stage as he is in a discussion of Italian wine characteristics. with a concrete background in Classical and traditional Jazz study, his compositions push the envelope of contemporary harmonic concepts, while simultaneously experimenting with intricately structured grooves.
